Green Foundation Nepal

Growing a Greener Nepal

A national non-profit social entrepreneurship organisation working across Nepal to empower communities, promote sustainable livelihoods, and build a greener, more equitable future

Empowering Communities
Protecting Forest Rights

Nepal’s community forestry system places more than a third of the country’s forests in the hands of local user groups. Since 2012, Green Foundation Nepal has worked alongside these communities to strengthen forest rights, support sustainable livelihoods, and shape policies that protect the people who care for our forests

Who we are

Green Foundation Nepal is a non-profit social entrepreneurship organisation established in 2012, working towards a wealthy nation with healthy natural resources and thriving people.

We facilitate multi-stakeholder dialogue, sustainable resource management, participatory research, policy and media advocacy, and green enterprise development, strengthening the organisations of farmers and forest-dependent people across Nepal.

What we do

Strengthening Community Forest User Rights & Tenure Rights

We help forest user groups secure legal recognition of the land they manage, and support them to negotiate with government on equal terms.

Read about the issues

Working with communities, not for them

Our work starts from what local people identify as the problem. We facilitate multi-stakeholder dialogue, participatory research and policy advocacy.

Our approach

Green enterprise and livelihoods

Bamboo, leaf plate production, nurseries and non-timber forest products, building enterprises that pay communities to keep landscapes intact.

What we have changed

Volunteer, partner, or contribute

We work with donors, researchers, students and local organisations. There is more than one way to be part of this.
